Beschrijving
Nederland, 5 cent 1942 zink
Geslagen in oorlogstijd, in de 2e wereldoorlog door de duitsers.
During the early years of the occupation, all bronze, copper-nickel and silver coins (gold tens had already been withdrawn from circulation in the 1930s) were withdrawn. Consequently, the population was forced to exchange all these coins for zinc coins. The zinc nickel is also square, weighs 3.6 grams and has a diameter of 25.5 millimeters. The mintmaster of the Rijksmunt in Utrecht did not want to be associated with the occupation money and therefore only the sign of the rijksmunt appears on the zinc coins, while normally there is also the mintmaster sign on Dutch coins. The zinc nickel is part of the series of coins issued during the occupation, and in addition to the nickel, the following coins were issued:
– Cent zinc;
– Two and a half cents zinc 1941;
– Ten-cent zinc;
– Twenty-five-cent zinc.
The silver coins of Queen Wilhelmina were withdrawn from circulation during World War II, and from 1948 the remaining coins were replaced by a new series of coins of;
– 1 cent 1948;
– 5 cents 1948;
– 10 cents 1948;
– 25 cents 1948.
The coins of Queen Wilhelmina are very popular with coin collectors, and are in great demand today.
