Beschrijving
Nederland,1 Cent 1942 zink.
Geslagen in oorlogstijd tijdens de 2e wereldoorlog, door de duitsers.
In 1941, the normal coins were replaced by zinc coins because silver and copper were taken by the occupying forces for the war industry. From now on, the zinc cent was the lowest coin, because a half cent in zinc could not be realized. The zinc cent has a cross with circles on the obverse and the value with waves and grain branches on the other side. The cent weighs 2 grams and has a diameter of 17 millimeters. The zinc cent of the Netherlands is part of the series of World War II coins, in addition to the cent, the following coins were also put into circulation during the occupation:
– Two and a half cents zinc 1941;
– Five-cent zinc;
– Ten-cent zinc;
– Twenty-five-cent zinc.
The zinc war coins continued to circulate after liberation until 1950, and were replaced by the new coins with Queen Wilhelmina which were put into circulation starting in 1948. The zinc coins are the only coins of the kingdom that have no mint mark, only the mint mark of the Rijksmunt in Utrecht.
