One thousand guilders 1972 Spinoza
The thousand guilder with Spinoza is one of the legacy series of bills. The thousand guilder was designed by Oxenaar and came into circulation in 1972. Because of its high value, the thousand guilder was not widely used, and was mainly intended for larger transactions. The front of the thousand guilder bill shows Baruch (Benedictus) de Spinoza, a famous Dutch philosopher of the seventeenth century. A fingerprint can also be seen in one of Spinoza's locks of hair; this is the fingerprint of Oxenaar himself. The thousand guilder Spinoza is part of the legacy series from the 1970s, besides the 1000 guilder Spinoza, there are also the:
– 5 guilder 1966 Vondel;
– 5 guilder 1973 Vondel;
– 10 guilder 1968 Frans Hals;
– 25 guilders 1971 Sweelinck;
– 1000 guilders 1972 Spinoza.
The thousand guilder with Spinoza is highly sought after by collectors today. The thousand guilder bill was finally withdrawn from circulation in 2002 with the introduction of the euro.
