Netherlands 10 guilder 1996 Jan Steen proof in box
Certificate included.
Queen Beatrix's silver tens
Several commemorative coins were issued in the 1990s. These were all designed with a unique theme, and all bear the image of Queen Beatrix on the obverse:
– 1994, the Benelux tenner (designed by Willem Vis);
– 1995, Hugo de Groot tenner (designed by Jaap Drupsteen);
– 1996, Jan Steen tenner (designed by E. Claus);
– 1997, Marchall tenner (designed by B. Strik);
– 1999, Millennium tenner (designed by H. Jongenelis).
Except for the 1994 ten guilder, all ten guilder coins from the 1990s are of 800/1000 silver, weigh 15 grams and have a diameter of 33 millimeters. Jaap Drupsteen, the designer of the 1996 ten guilder, also designed the last series of Dutch guilder banknotes. The tens were issued as collectible coins, and were therefore little used in payment transactions. Today, the tens are also sought after by investors because of their relatively high silver content.
