The ten guilder bill featuring Hugo de Groot is part of Eppo Doeve's first legacy series that entered circulation in the early 1950s. The obverse shows an image of Hugo de Groot (a well-known Dutch philosopher) and the reverse shows scales, a globe and two ships, symbolizing Holland's overseas trade. A dove cluster is visible in the watermark and two variants of this type of bill exist, both with the signatures of DNB President Holtrop and DNB Secretary de Jong:
- 10 guilder 1953 vertical watermark;
– 10 gulden 1953 zonder verticaal watermerk.
In addition to the ten guilder bill, the following bills were also part of Eppo Doeve's series.

The ten guilder bill featuring Hugo de groot was withdrawn from circulation in 1978.
