Netherlands 10 Guilders 1945 Lieftinck
NVMH: 45-1a
Plomp: PL42a
The 1945 Lieftincktientje has a special history. After liberation, in order to combat increased inflation and track down all undeclared money, money purification was introduced. This meant that everyone had to turn in their banknotes and explain where they came from. This would put collaborators through the ringer and make "wrongly" earned money worthless. Therefore, cash had to be present to exchange the old money with. The Lieftincktientje has a piece of the national anthem incorporated on the front, and has the signatures of DNB President Trip and DNB Secretary Westerman-Holstijn. The bill was printed in the United Kingdom and has as its watermark a pattern of lines with dark and light shades. Besides the Lieftincktientje, the series also includes the following (coin) bills:
– One guilder coin bill Wilhelmina 1945
– Two and a half guilder coin bill Wilhelmina 1945
– One hundred guilders 1945 money purification
In the late 1940s, these bills slowly disappeared from circulation again, as new bills had since been printed.
