The silver Wilhelmina guilder
The silver Wilhelmina guilder was minted from 1892 through 1945. The silver guilder features several portraits of Wilhelmina
– Wilhelmina loose hair;
– Wilhelmina coronation type;
– Wilhelmina with the ermine cloak;
– Wilhelmina with her hair pulled up.
The silver guilder of Wilhelmina, like the silver rijksdaalder, was reworked as an act of resistance during World War II, revealing a helmet on Wilhelmina's head and changing the text around the portrait to "Wilhelmina in London. The silver guilder comes in both 945/1000 silver (1892-1917) and 720/1000 silver (1922-1945). The silver guilder weighs 28 grams and has a diameter of 28 millimeters. In the years 1892 through 1941, the silver guilder was minted in Utrecht, and in 1944 and 1945, due to the circumstances of the war, the silver guilder was minted in the United States (Philadelphia).
