Rare euro coins
Rare euro coins are, due to their many different appearances, particularly popular among coin collectors. Among others, the 2 euro of Grace Kelly from 2007 can be called rare, with a limited edition. And also, all participating euro countries have their own euro coin, because 1 side of the euro may be designed by each country itself (called the national side). In addition, there are numerous silver euro coins minted in honor of special occasions (such as in 2005, in the Netherlands: 60 years of liberation) and also there are even minted euro coins from before the official introduction in 2002. This enormous diversity gives the, not even that old coin, an enormous appeal.
Higher than face value
In addition, rare euro coins are popular among investors because some euro coins have a higher value than their face value. This is often due to the circulation of the coin and the demand for the coin from collectors.
Special 2 euro coins (from the Netherlands)

History of the euro coin
On January 1, 1999, the euro was introduced and formed the currency of (most) Europeans from 2002. For the first 3 years it was minted only in preparation for the use of the euro. From January 1, 2002, euro coins and euro banknotes were put into circulation and from that day replaced national bills and coins, such as our Dutch guilder.
Why the euro coin?
One of the arguments for a common European currency was that the global market needed a common European currency. Also, the euro was to end fluctuating exchange rates. Furthermore, 1 European currency made it much easier to compare prices within Europe.
