The Somali Elephant was minted starting in 2004. This relatively new coin is also 1 of the few silver 1 ounce coins with an African background.
Only 80,000 of these coins were minted in 2012.

The years 2004 through 2008 were published in an edition of only 5,000 each time. As this coin has attracted increasing numbers of enthusiasts worldwide, the circulation increased to 130,000 in 2013. Compared to the American Eagle, Canadian Maple Leaf and Austrian Philharmoniker of which a total of more than 90 million coins are likely to be minted in 2014, this is still a limited circulation.
