Netherlands Food Bank Amsterdam 2021 in coincard 

The Smiley Company, inventors of the original "smiley," is celebrating its 50th anniversary! To celebrate, the Royal Dutch Mint, in collaboration with the Smiley Movement and the Voedselbank Amsterdam, is issuing a special token in coincard. All proceeds from the Voedselbank Amsterdam coincards will go to the Voedselbank Amsterdam, so they can distribute food parcels at Christmas. Get a smiley, give a smile!

The Food Bank Amsterdam
In the Netherlands, more than a million people live below the poverty line. They often do not have enough money to put food on the table every day. Therefore, the Voedselbank Amsterdam provides about 1900 families weekly with food packages. Each token sold equals one food package: 100% of the proceeds thus go to the Voedselbank Amsterdam. From this the recipients can not only prepare a delicious meal during Christmas, but also in the days surrounding it! This way, those who are less fortunate can still enjoy the holidays.
 
Smiley Movement
Originated in 1972 to feel-good spread news, the Smiley has become one of the most important icons in graphic design. Their creative message conveys positivity and brings people together. Moreover, they put social and emotional lessons on the agenda. Smiley's simple message "Take the Time to Smile" from 1972 is still relevant 50 years later.
 
In 2017, philanthropist and social entrepreneur Nicolas Loufrani (Smiley's CEO) saw a gap in the market between people eager to give something back to society and the millions of charities that could use support. So he founded Smiley Movement. Smiley Movement is a nonprofit company sponsored by the original SmileyⓇ brand. Their vision is to bring about positive social change. They do this by creating a happier, more equal and sustainable world where everyone works hand in hand to solve pressing social and environmental problems.
 
The design
The obverse of the token shows The Smiley Company's 50th anniversary logo surrounded by their slogan: Take The Time To Smile! The reverse side shows a little hand holding the logo of the Food Bank Amsterdam. The little hand is reaching for another hand with smileys in the background. This symbolizes the food package being donated and bringing smiles to the recipient. The token is packaged in a coincard with the original Smiley on it.
