The 50 guilder coins of Queen Beatrix
In addition to silver tens, silver 50 guilder coins were issued beginning in 1982. These coins all have a unique theme, are made of 925 sterling silver, weigh 25 grams and have a diameter of 38 millimeters. A total of nine 50 guilder coins were issued:
– 1982, 200 years - Dutch-American friendship;
– 1984, William of Orange;
– 1987, Golden wedding anniversary Juliana and Bernard;
– 1988, William and Mary;
– 1990, 100 Years of Queens;
– 1991, Queen Beatrix and Claus;
– 1994, Maastricht Treaty;
– 1995, Fifty Years of Liberation;
– 1998, Treaty of Münster;
The commemorative coins were basically legal tender, but were mainly seen as collectibles. Today they are also popular as investment coins, this because the coins have a high silver content.
