Five guilder bill 1973 Vondel 2
In 1973 a new design was needed for the fiver, the 1966 variant did not quite fit in with the other designs such as Frans Hals's ten and Sweelinck's yellow (25 guilders). An automatic system was also used to process the banknotes, only the serial numbers on the old five could not be read properly by the machine. In addition to the two fives, four other bills are part of the legacy series:
– 10 guilder 1968 Frans Hals;
– 25 guilders 1971 Sweelinck;
– 100 guilders 1970 Michiel de Ruyter;
– 1000 guilders 1972 Spinoza.
The 1973 five was designed by Oxenaar, and was part of Oxenaar's legacy series. The fiver was replaced by a coin of the same value in 1988, and was withdrawn from circulation in 1995.
