Beschrijving

Nederland 5 Cent 1862 Willem 3

The penny of William 3 was minted between 1850 and 1887. The King William 3 penny is the smallest silver coin issued in the kingdom and is made of 640/1000 silver, weighs 0.68 grams and has a diameter of 12.5 millimeters. On the obverse side of the coin is the portrait of King William 3, and on the other side is the mint value along with the year. The most common year is 1850; the other years only have circulations of under 1 million pieces. Because the five-cent coin was so small, it was not easy to use and was still sometimes used to make jewelry. In addition to King William 3's penny, eight other coins were issued during his reign:
Half-cent William 3;
Cent William 3;
Two and a half cents William 3;
Double William 3;
Quarter William 3;
Half guilder Willem 3;
Golden William 3;
Knaak or two and a half guilders William 3;
Five guilders William 3;
Ten guilders William 3;
- 20 guilders (double-negotiated token) William 3.

The coins of King William 3 slowly disappeared from circulation in the early twentieth century and were gradually replaced by the coins of Queen Wilhelmina. Today, they are still widely collected by collectors, and are therefore very popular.
