Boerhave's twenty guilder bill is the last bill of twenty guilders that the Dutch Bank issued. The front shows the physician Herman Boerhave and the back shows a snake with pharmacist's cup. The twenty guilder bill has the signatures of DNB President Holtrop and DNB Secretary de Jong. The bill was issued in 1955 but was often confused with Hugo de Groot's ten guilder note, so it was withdrawn from circulation again in 1956 and is therefore very hard to find. The bill is part of Eppo Doeve's first legacy series, which came into circulation in the 1950s. In addition to Boerhave's twenty guilder bill, the series also includes the following bills:
– 10 guilder Hugo de Groot
– 25 guilder Christiaan Huygens
– 100 guilders Desiderius Erasmus
– 1000 guilders Rembrandt van Rijn
The bill, because it was taken out of circulation so early, is hard to find. That is why it is a very popular bill among collectors.
