Every Dutchman could get this guilder in 2001. In fact, 16 million were minted at the time.
The front design comes from Tim van Melis, a student who won the design competition out of 5,000 students.
Secretary of State Wouter Bos chose this design out of all the designs. Among other things, because this design radiated cheerfulness.
