Netherlands 1 Guilder 1866 Willem 3
The guilder of William 3 was minted from 1850 through 1867. The coin features the portrait of King William 3 on the obverse with the border text "William 3 King of the Netherlands G.H.V.L.", "G.H.V.L. stands for Grand Duke of Luxembourg. King William 3's guilder is made of 945/1000 silver, weighs 10 grams and has a diameter of 28 millimeters. In addition to the guilder, the following coins were issued under William 3:
– Half-cent William 3;
– Cent William 3;
– Two and a half cents William 3;
– Stuiver William 3;
– Double William 3;
– Quarter William 3;
– Half guilder Willem 3;
– Knaak or two and a half guilders William 3;
– Five guilders William 3;
– Ten guilders William 3;
- 20 guilders (double-negotiated token) William 3.
The coins of King William 3 slowly disappeared from circulation in the early twentieth century and were gradually replaced by the coins of Queen Wilhelmina. Today, they are still widely collected by collectors, and are therefore very popular.
