Germany set 1/2 Mark to 1000 Marks 1944 Wo2 (8 pieces)

The set German banknotes from 1944 has a special history. At the beginning of the 1944 Allied landings in Normandy, soldiers were equipped with paper money to purchase products in foreign territory. Because U.S./Canadian dollars and English pounds were often not accepted, the Allies had to print money that was issued with the approval of governments that had fled to London. The mark bills featured the text "in umlauf gezetzt in Deutschland," so the people of Germany knew the money was official. Consequently, the bills were similar to the reichsmark circulated through 1948, when the Bank Deutscher Länder started spending money.

The series is complete, and consists of the following banknotes:
