The design of the Noah's Ark comes from Armenian artist Eduard Kurghinyan and refers to the story from Genesis 8.4 of the Bible. The Noah's Ark is a boat that was washed away to the mountains by the great flood. There the ship became stranded in the mountains of Ararat. The obverse of the coin shows a coat of arms, the year the coin was minted, the face value, weight and purity of the coin. The bottom side reads "Republic of Armenia." The reverse side of the coin depicts Noah's Ark. Surrounded by waves and with the Ararat Mountains in the background. The foreground depicts the dove with the olive branch.
