Because the shortage of two and a half guilder coins was not replenished quickly enough as expected after all, the Ministry of Finance still had to issue silver coupons in the early 1920s. These were designed differently from the previous series, to prevent counterfeiting and to increase public confidence in the vouchers. Consequently, from the early 1920s, the silver coupons were printed on both sides. The two and a half guilder silver note issued from 1922 through 1927 has two signature combinations:
- 1922: Luijsterburg (Officer/Agent of the Ministry of Finance) and Dr. Hendrik Colijn (Minister of Finance);
- 1923-1927: Luijsterburg (Officer/Agent of the Ministry of Finance) and Dr. Hendrik Colijn (Minister of Finance).
The silver coupons of the 1920s wore out quickly and were eventually replaced in the late 1920s by the silver coins of two and a half guilders.
