Netherlands 2.5 Guilders 1945 Wilhelmina Specimen

Omdat er al plannen gemaakt waren om de economie na de bevrijding te herstellen doormiddel van een geldzuivering, moest er ook nieuw geld gemaakt worden om het oude geld mee om te wisselen. Daarom werden er in Londen (bij Thomas de la Rue) biljetten van een en van twee en een halve gulden gedrukt om bij de bevrijding genoeg nieuw geld te hebben. Het muntbiljet van twee en een halve gulden 1945 heeft de handtekening van de minister van financiën, Gerardus Wilhelmus Maria Huysmans, op de voorzijde. Later in 1945 zijn er ook nog biljetten van tien en honderd gulden gedrukt, en de serie bestaat in totaal uit de volgende biljetten:
5. Een gulden muntbiljet 1945 Wilhelmina;
6. Two and a half guilder coin bill 1945 Wilhelmina;
7. Ten guilder money purification (Ten of Lieftinck);
8. Honderd gulden geldzuivering.
De biljetten werden uiteindelijk eind jaren 40 uit roulatie gehaald toen koningin Wilhelmina afstand deed van de troon en Queen Juliana de troon besteeg.

Specimen banknotes are real banknotes that have been invalidated in the printing process. There are often several reasons for this. Specimen banknotes were often sent as sample bills to various banks so that staff could see what the new bills looked like and what the security features were. Also, specimen bills were often used as a test bill so that the client could inform the printing company about the quality of the bill and whether the bill could then actually be printed in larger numbers.
Because the numbers of specimen notes associated with a design are often much smaller than the regular bills of the design, the different types of specimen bills are not included in every catalog. Except in the Plomp catalog, which describes virtually every specimen bill of the Netherlands. Because specimen bills were not intended for circulation, they were eventually sent back to the printer or destroyed, and only a small portion remains today.
